I am currently working on the following paintings in this ongoing series. Each painting will be released and made available upon completion in no particular order, depending on time and inspiration:
‘Dragonfly’
This painting is inspired by the lyrics of the 1970 song ‘Dragonfly’ by Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac. Written by Peter Green and band member Danny Kirwan, the song itself included lyrics adapted from a poem by W. H. Davies. To me this song acts as a reminder that there is majestic beauty all around us, no more so than in the humble garden, with a world of constant activity moving through the seasons. I intend to capture the beauty, majesty and colour of the subject whilst applying styles that will reflect the era of the song. My main concentration will be to replicate the shear beauty and translucent, reflective properties of the delicate dragonfly’s wings. The concept sketch for this painting is shown on the left.
‘Jonathan’
This painting is inspired by the lyrics of the 1975 Barclay James Harvest song ‘Jonathan’ from the album ‘Time Honoured Ghosts’. The song itself was inspired by the classic book ‘Jonathan Livingston Seagull’. The book and the lyrics of this song offer everyone the inspiration and encouragement to believe that we can achieve anything if we keep trying.
‘When I Live My Dream’
This painting is inspired by the song of the same title, written and recorded by David Bowie and featured on his 1967 debut album ‘David Bowie’. This song creates a wonderfully romantic fairytale image of perfect love in the mind of the lover, although at present unreturned by the object of his desires. With bitter-sweet undertones this song also offers hope that all will work out in the end.
The concept sketch for this painting is shown on the left.
Further paintings planned in this series are inspired by the song lyrics of T-Rex, The Moody Blues, Chuck Berry, Bruce Springsteen, Jon & Vangelis, Bread, Gram Parsons, Velvet Underground, CSNY and The Byrds, among many others.
Please contact me if you would like further information, to suggest ideas for future paintings or to express an interest in exhibiting or buying an original painting.
